Tortolita Alliance (TA) received photos from TA members of a new electric transmission line currently being constructed across the Tortolita Fan not too far from the Tortolita Preserve. It is called the TRICO Adonis Feeder Transmission Line. It apparently starts near the I-10 and heads due east through the Sonoran desert and terminates at the new Saguaro Reserve subdvision. See photo above and photo collage below.
TA was not aware of this project. We reached out to the Town of Marana and they apparently were not aware of this project. We reached out to TRICO's CEO and he has responded and agreed to have his staff meet with TA and provide answers to the following:
Why were there no public meetings or hearings?
What is the purpose of this electric transmission line?
What is the intended service area?
Why couldn't it be built underground like the existing electric transmission line that serves Dove Mountain?
What regulatory approvals were obtained to build this project?
What environmental approvals were obtained including compliance with Arizona native plant regulations and electrical field impact on animals and birds?
Who funded the construction of this electric transmission line?
TA will keep you informed as more information is received.
Imagine if you bought a new home in the Saguaro Reserve subdivision hoping to have a beautiful unobstructed view across the Tortolita Fan!
