TA Tidbits # 29 Gone-Soon

Monsoon 2021 Remnants-Wild Burro Wash

Monsoon season is gone ("Gone-Soon"). If Marana passes the half-cent sales tax, some of your hard earned money will be Gone-Soon!

Half Cent Sales Tax Increase-Public Hearing (10/19)

In early September, we provided Marana Sales Tax Increase Considerations which included three recommendations; (1) apply the sales tax across all 20 tax categories (construction was left out), (2) spread the proceeds across Marana and (3) include a sales tax sunset.

Now just a month later, things have changed and perhaps now is not the time to invoke a sales tax increase. For example, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Western United States is up 5.3% over one year ago. Inflation will be a burden on us and we do not need to compound it with a sales tax increase. Plus, many of the items consumers may want to buy will never get here because they are sitting in container ships of the coast off California!

This is your chance to provide input to Marana. Attend the Public Hearing on Tuesday (10/19/21) at 6:00 PM at the Marana Municipal Complex, fill out a comment card and tell them what you think. If you cannot make it, call or email the Mayor and/or Town Councilmembers.

Gone-Soon Impacts

Hiked the Alamo Springs Trail early this morning. On September 8 we reported the Soft Feather Pappusgrass Invasion. Now all that green grass has dried out and the Tortolita Mountains have large patches of dry brown grass. Note the SF Pappusgrass is 3.5 feet tall and has engulfed many smaller saguaros. Here is a photo collage from today's hike:
