The Friends of Ironwood Forest are holding a Meet The Monument 2020 Event on Saturday, March 21. See flyer, announcement and list of speakers below.
The Friends of Ironwood Forest (FIF) have set Saturday, March 21th for our annual “Meet the Monument” event. This gathering - free and open to the public - will be held again on the north side of iconic Ragged Top, approximately 20 miles west of Marana.
If you haven’t had the chance to attend a Meet the Monument (MTM) – or it has been a while since your last – considering joining us this year. The event keeps growing – more local experts, new information, added walkabouts, more guests. In addition, 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of Ironwood Forest National Monument. With your continued support, The Friends have had a dynamic impact joining with the BLM to preserve, improve, and promote this unique corner of the Sonoran Desert.
Walkabouts led by local experts focusing on saguaros, Ironwood trees, succulents, geology, and photography.
Three guest speakers under our event canopy - this year addressing bats, archeology, and lizards & scorpions.
Informational stations hosted by the BLM, Friends of Ironwood Forest, Arizona Native Plant Society, Pima County Master Naturalists, Citizens Climate Lobby Silver Bell Historical Society, and Brain Blais, shares results of an FIF grant supported research project.
Crowd favorites Cecil Schwalbe and Michael Cardwell will have reptiles on site, Joe Sheehey will cover Big Horn Sheep, Jim Avramis addresses hiking in the Monument, and “The Bill’s” (Peachey and Thornton) will welcome questions regarding succulents!
Rescue cacti raffle for those that sign up at the FIF canopy. Check our new logo and retail goods while you are there!
