Our Marana
Water is the sustenance of life. We cannot live without it.
Yet the Town of Marana-Marana Water (MW) plans to quadruple the MW service area population from 28,674 to 118,379 (11.5% annual growth rate) in a very short time frame (2021-2034). Total water demand (residential & commercial) will increase from 2,920 acre-feet year (AFY) to 15,335 AFY (13.62% annual growth rate) during this same time period for a whopping 425% increase.
MW proposes to meet this tremendous increase in water demand primarily with groundwater (72%) from an aquifer that has portions already contaminated with "forever chemicals" and proposed to be replenished with non-native-groundwater sources that, for the most part, are not fully reliable, permanent or renewable.
The Marana DAWS Modification Application demonstrates the tremendous conflict between prudent land and water supply planning and the Arizona Groundwater Management Act.
The Revised Public Notice, TA's Objection Letter and Objection Letter Instructions are provided below.
This may be our only opportunity to provide input on this critical matter and protect the future of Marana. Please send an Objection Letter and request a hearing if the Marana DAWS Modification is concerning to you.
Revised Public Notice
The Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) has revised the Marana DAWS Modification public notice (left) at the request of TA as the original notice had incorrect state statute references.
